I know that many people are concerned about “Threads” privacy policy and are all screaming “WE WILL BLOCK THREADS”. I honestly can’t see how it’s going to gather any personal information since Lemmy, mastodon etc. doesn’t collect any information at all. Like, how can you gather information about user, if he doesn’t have any information about himself. Sure, Threads will collect info about its users, that’s obvious, but I think it’s a bad idea to just block it from the start

I don’t doubt it, the fediverse will absolutely self implode if this insanity continues, you have instances de-federating with meta, you have instances de-federating with instances which chose not to de-federate with meta, its putting massive walls between content/and fediverse users.

If things continue as is, some people will have no choice but to use meta’s official instance and applications rather than a mastodon/kbin/etc instance, as they would’ve blocked meta. I’m sure that’s not what everyone wants.

…what the fuck are you talking about? How much does Meta pay you? If this place implodes then it’s simply onto the next one. It’s my data, it’s not free, and I can choose who I give it to. That’s not novel or extreme… ? When someone is spying on you, you have a right to do what it takes to eliminate that activity.

I love that meta collecting data on you is big scary stuff, but some random from some random country with zero accountability is your solution to privacy 🤣
