I guess I want to see whether there are some advanced solutions so I can play movies and anime in 120fps 4K.
Is gamescope pretty much the only solution in case of games?
Video upscale can be done with mpv and upscaling shaders. But for the exact config you need to go thorough the trial and error process.
I won’t recommend interpolation, especially AI as they tends to break artistic touches and generate weird artifacts.
Anime in 120fps
Still, want to mess around with my overkill hardware. :P
Here is an alternative Piped link(s):
Piped is a privacy-respecting open-source alternative frontend to YouTube.
I’m open-source; check me out at GitHub.
I’m not 100% sure but I have always read that playing movie at higher frame rate than source doesn’t make video looking better. To get best results, it is adviced to have your screen frame rate matching the one from source. That being said, can’t tell you how to achieve this on linux since I only watch stuff on TV using shield TV as a player.
I have seen the soap opera effect on my Samsung oled, I just wonder if it can get any better if I have multitudes the processing power.
If it is reported, then it can be done. But my question is with what? :P
If I were you, I would try to disable some/all of the image features your TV has in settings. Could be those settings that create soap opera effect.
