On a serious note I always turn it down so I can hear if somebody’s yelling that a kid ran behind where I can’t see if I’m backing out or honking.

Too much stuff going on in a parking lot to risk distractions.

I adjust the volume so I can see if there are any kids to run down.

I believe in a practical approach to teaching kids road safety.

Back into every spot every time. That is something my wife has heard me say a billion times, and I’ve said it to many people. Back in to parking spots, it is always safer and easier to pull out forward. Backing in, you’re already in the travelway, you and others are aware of one another’s existence. I also think it’s easier to maneuver into a space when your pivot enters last. Also helps you practice backing up, for situations where you may need it.

Granted, all of this came from driving ambulances, where the lesson was, no matter how steep and windy the driveway, backing in it with an empty box is always easier than backing out with a patient in the back.

I will concede there are exceptions, anyone can feel free to list them.

Furthermore, I’ve seen some municipalities institute back in angled spaces on roadways, and they are absolutely the best. Anytime a road has non-parallel parking spaces, they should be back-in spaces.

The brain is a funny thing, too much audio input impairs other functions, it’s why they played loud thrash metal in abu gharib

yeah, fantastic method by the way, because if you’re interrogating someone you definitely don’t want them thinking clearly.

If that’s true, then they shouldn’t be planning that music at that volume or at all while driving

I do this. I just can’t deal with the loud music, trying to hear someone directing me over the loud music, and trying to make sure im not driving into the basket collection lane at the direction of the sideseat driver.

There’s only one thing I can turn off in this instance, and it ain’t the loud mouth on my right. Multitasking is a bitch.
