Honestly this discussion also highlights the issue that what’s considered inappropriate varies widely and often changes both in terms of prejudice and in terms of context. Most people would agree that an image of a penis entering or inside of a vagina is pornographic unless it’s a medical diagram laying out the anatomical and physiological aspects like the one in the anatomy book my otherwise puritanical parents let me read at the age of six. Most people would agree that nudity is sexual except for, again, anatomical diagrams, but also many classical artistic depictions such as paintings and statues. Breasts are for some reason considered sexual in most of the areas heavily colonized by people from the places where lactose tolerance past childhood evolved but not most other places which is super handy if you like being able to feed infants. Most people agree that kissing for an extended period while rubbing areas close to the genitals is sexual, but often not enough to restrict it from being viewed by teenagers.

TLDR; what’s even considered “sexual” or “porn” can vary wildly and has historically been used to suppress education, various minorities, and general freedom of expression.

It’s mostly me cussing out the government for not paying me or my coworkers enough to really provide good mental health care and weird historical and multicultural funeral traditions. Sometimes there’s some overlap though, like in some parts of the world its customary to hire strippers for funerals.

I’ve never shut down any of the psych wards I’ve worked that hard for that long and I’m basically the psych version of an ICU nurse so I keep a highly specialized controlled environment designed for people sick enough that they genuinely can’t control themselves why the fuck are they doing that to random everyday people who haven’t done anything to evidence that kind of behavior? I guess we also just wouldn’t have lost scissors in an area large enough to lose them like that but that just further highlights why that level of control is inappropriate for this environment.

A shocking number of women are just absolute fucking freaks once you remove the consequences of being a freak, namely both intentional and unintentional physical injury, but also social consequences and unwanted pregnancy. Because I’m so open about this kind of thing I actually get a lot of women asking for advice on stuff like anal or restraints. Those women are out there, and dare I say even common, they just have to feel safe enough to let that shit out. When you make sure it’s completely her choice and she knows you’ll do everything in your power to make sure it doesn’t hurt and she’ll have the utmost privacy and won’t be forced to carry an unwanted pregnancy you might be shocked what many women will even ask to do.

TL;DR: all the weird dudes throughout history just running hogwild with rampant control / domination fetishes primarily distributed through religious extremism ruined sex for the rest of you. I was raised by fundies and a buuunch of them are hiding some pretty wild kinks under all that Bible thumping. The dude who was advocating for mutilating baby penises and made most of his money selling breakfast cereal also invented a special chair for blasting several gallons of yogurt up your butt over the course of just a few minutes, and somehow all in the name of sexual purity.

As someone into this, you have to find men who are respectful enough to stop if things are moving too fast or you’re not lubed up enough yet, and that’s difficult for a bunch of different but interrelated reasons, one of them just being that finding multiple trustworthy people is just statistically less likely than finding one trustworthy person even before you factor in gender dynamics.

I’ve noticed even the most sexually respectful men have at least a tiny pain kink, even if it’s just a little bit of an “oof” or squeak from going in too hard or fast because it makes them feel like their dick is bigger. 90% of the time that’s not really a problem (and sometimes you really do just want to get fucking pounded and feel that stretch so it works out for everybody) but a first DP really needs to be taken slow. So you can almost definitely find one guy that’s willing to go slow enough for anal to be enjoyable, or to insert a dildo into your vagina or anus while also fucking you but the guys who are respectful enough for that to actually be enjoyable are rarely the ones who want to share. Oh I figured I just had slightly worse color vision in my lazy eye. Vision deficits are pretty common with amblyopia though, most treatment focuses on making sure the eye develops good focus whether or not it works with the dominant one, because then you at least have a backup if you wind up needing it.

I just finished my first week at a religious organization and my two thoughts are:

1. Thank goodness I got an IUD a long time ago because while they have to offer birth control they have a bunch of weird insurance company loopholes to jump through so they’re not paying for it directly.

2. Both the facilities and care are waaaaaaaay nicer in this tiny inner city pseudo-hospital with 3 units including the ER and psych than at the state university teaching hospital 15 blocks west that treated my psych patients like criminals on a unit full of asbestos and mold.

Actually it is. There’s not actually a nursing shortage if you look into the numbers, there’s just a shortage of nurses willing to get screamed at by delirious people while doing backbreaking work without backup or enough people to distribute that work among while getting paid pennies. If so many people weren’t leaving the field entirely due this issue (the chief complaint ALWAYS being under-staffing / low nurse-to-patient ratios, THEN pay), there would be plenty of nurses to go around. It always comes down to pay and ratios (which are inextricably intertwined) and everything else is fractions of percentages of the problem that get overemphasized so that the people siphoning money out of this system never have to address the elephant in the room. Don’t let them deflect you away from focusing on their greed. A bunch of nurses are also out there pushing themselves through degree mill nurse-practitioner schools to become wildly unsafe prescribers for the same reasons as those leaving entirely, which also reduces the bedside workforce.
