Here it was especially infuriating because it’s mixed with all the company policies, like the 1 month process it took me to have administrator privilege in the first place.

These process also make some sense as I’m in a company of several hundred thousand employees, but all of this mixed together is exhaustingly anoying.

At least now I know that I’m not crazy. Also that this issue is on Microsoft and not on my company’s IT department.

It’s a ~5 years old thinkpad. It may be due to it not being well managed but it really disn’t up to the task. Being in a Teams call while using an external displays makes the framerate drop to ~10fps for example 🤷

Also, I don’t get how people just accept that any input they perform will require an average of 1s for feedback.

But at least now I understand why macs are so popular…

What a big pile of shit software, I swear I’m just gonna quit because of this ass smelling garbage.

Today I discovered that C:/Users/MyUser was silently an alias of C:/Users/OneDriveBullshit/MyUser only in the explorer. So I just figured out why some documents were often disappearing for months, I’m just working on a multiverse were depending on the application the same path don’t lead to the same folder.

Earlier this week I unzipped a file and couldn’t remove resulting files without administrator privileges.

I’ve never lost so much time for any fucking software, let alone a paid one. And don’t even get me starting on the fucking ads they put everywhere even if you unchecked the 154 options in 42 different menus.

I’d say it depends if you are a technical user or not.

Yeah, my first question when I saw the title was “how do you even gather this data?”. It’s actually pretty cool as steam probably has rather reliable data in its own niche.

I kinda like your idea, but I think it can be difficult to detect some confusing situations. I think it would be a better idea, but I don’t think it’s a full replacement.

One could use the exact same example to argue that humans are very bad at parsing code (especially if whitespace kicks in). In that regard a tool that allows them to reason on a standardized representation of the AST can be a protection against a whole class of attacks.

What other red flags do you have in mind?

As some others mentioned it depends on context. My project managers do a lot of shit I don’t want to do : handling budgets, discussing project scope with clients, handling authorization request to external APIs (I’m in a big company) and also most PO stuff (writing tickets and handling sprint ceremonies).

Sometime they are a bit annoying because they freak out about deadlines and ask question every 10min while you try to focus and actually solve the bug, but at least they are self aware that it is because they feel helpless in this kind of situation 😛

Also, more about the proxy thing, sometime I have to explain technical things that simplifies and then they will probably explain it again to clients with a second layer of simplification. But I usually never hear about this again, which probably means that they manage to reassure client and maybe add a bit of bullshit on parts that don’t really mater, which spares me a lot of time overall.

I see a lot of people saying that your managers are bad managers, but I think your organization also put them in a badly defined role.

Yeah, people who built those modern technologies are mostly over 50, I suppose.

I don’t think think Proton shows bad will on this one. The only alternative I can think of (as a non expert) would be IMAP + GPG encrypted emails but very few desktop clients support GPG, which would make them less accessible 🤷‍♂️ Having their own protocol also probably makes it much much easier for them to iterate on it, opening up usually makes think much robust but also slower.

Tbh I am not surprised there are people who don’t know what cut is. When I was in school a lot of people around me though it was just the graphical button to delete things. I think UI tried to solve the problem since them : cutting won’t delete a file but will just shade it, which makes it more obvious that you should do another action.

I think that’s one thing about open source project : a lot of people work for free so they invest time on what they want and like. I don’t know if it’s what happens here, but I think in general it is not fair to ask for an optimal time management in open source communities.
