I’m not sure. If we were too, I think we should have at least $10k saved up. But even then I’m not sure if we really should be. I wonder if it will reduce the number of donations. I’m not sure if everyone donating would be OK with their donations being redirected somewhere else, especially if the charity is seen as controversial by the donor.
I think a possible work around would be to donate to the maintainers of the software we use. That shouldn’t be controversial. (but someone will probably find a way to be offended by that…)
If we do, well defined rules are a must. Like how we determine how much to donate every month, and to who.
Side note: The money is invested and earning interest, right? It’s not hard to get 5% right now and that’s a few hundred bucks a year.
I was referring to YT sometimes hiding videos from the feed of new content. For example when GDQ adds 30 videos in a day, YT will simply ignore them and not list them unless I go directly to their channel’s page. with FreeTube, it’s just a linear list of videos by published date, and it shows you which you’ve watched too.
To your point, yes, you can’t open a new tab, but since everything is listed in order and marked, it’s way easier than using tabs.
I haven’t found a downside, honestly it works better than youtube. I get a list of all new content on the channels I subscribe to, not just what the youtube algorithm wants me to see.
You can also do short term investment like T-Bills or CDs too. Just make sure they’re maturing regularly. For example you could split your emergency fund into 8 chunks, and buy an 8 week T-Bill every week for 8 weeks. If you ever need the money stop reinvesting them and you’ll get 1/8th back per week for 8 weeks.
T-Bills are a bit over 5% now.
Assuming there is a door between the house and the garage. There should be weather stripping under the door, there should be enough play in the rubber seal to run a flat cat6 cable under the door. Blue painters tape can help keep things in place and not be a trip hazard.
Realtors get paid when they sell a house, but it’s only 2.5%-3.0% of the sale price. Getting someone to pay an extra 10% on a house nets them an additional 0.25%-0.3%, it’s chump change to them. Selling a one million dollar home for $1.1 million nets them $27,500. Selling 2 one million dollar homes for $900k nets them $45,000.
Houses that I bid $30,000 over asking price and someone still swooped in and bid even more.
Asking price is such a lie. But also keep in mind that it’s not just about price, it’s also about contingencies. Hyperbole but if I have 2 offers, one is $450k all cash no inspection, and the other is $550k contingent on their cat liking it, I know which I’m going with. That being said DO NOT waive the inspection. Unless you’re a contractor who can handle anything that goes wrong, you don’t want to risk it. You could get a great house, or you could buy a money pit.
It’s crazy, I got my offer accepted because their realtor liked my realtor better than the others. They talked to my realtor on the side, said they had another offer for 4% more than ours but didn’t like the other realtor and if we met it they’d accept with no counter.
I get everyone hates HOAs, but this is flat wrong. HOA rules are material facts about the property, they must be disclosed before buying. They will be disclosed in escrow, if not earlier. When they are disclosed, read them over and bail if you don’t like them or ask for a price reduction.
Have you looked into jobs in higher education?
The pay could be better, but it’s not horrible. The benefits and working conditions are generally good. In my many years, I’ve never said ‘wow, that’s unethical’. Worst I’ve had is having to explain how certain policies, which sound good on the surface, are not equitable to all students in all social-economical situations and need to be revised.
Marketing, Communication, and Outreach are totally jobs in higher ed, and you’re not trying to trick someone into buying crap: https://www.higheredjobs.com/admin/search.cfm?JobCat=37&StartRow=-1&SortBy=4&NumJobs=25&filterby=&CatType=
