The guy carries a lot of baggage.
I agree we shouldn’t be living to work. The costs of homes are higher than ever, the interest rate sucks, the cost of living has increased, and wages have stagnated. But again, I’m not talking about tightening the belt when you’re working a minimum wage job trying to make ends meet. If you’re making $175,000 a year then you’re living comfortably above the poverty level. There has to be a way to save 10% of it instead of complaining on social media that you can’t get ahead when the cost of beer has gone up to 11 bucks a pint. I buy my beer at Costco and invite my friends over to watch the game in my den. I can enjoy life while saving for my future. Every time I’ve gotten a raise I just took that money and put it into savings and continued living like nothing has changed.
FWIW I agree with your sentiment, unpopular as it seems to be. 175k/yr combined income is not chump change. It is not below the poverty line, it is middle class. Depending where you live, you can live very comfortably for that amount of money. But I’m willing to bet they can’t easily take those wages and relocate across the country, so chances are they have physical jobs which tie their wages to their local economy. 175k spends less in Beverly Hills than it does in Fargo. I suspect that based on OP’s concerns about draft beer prices, that they like to go out to bars and spend money for entertainment. If my suspicions are correct then OP could probably tighten the belt, spend only on the necessities and save up for that down payment on that 30 year mortgage.
