Many of the administrative positions were still filled with former Nazis. Most germans in denial of what happened. Also the winning powers seemed far more interested in the spoils of war compared to a just but self-limiting gesture of goodwill.

Sketchy ground for such huge undertaking that would have made german willingness and acceptance paramount.

I see two main culprits that enable Israel to eradicate the Palestinian people and their livelihood in manner and speed we see now. The US and germany. Many other western political elites seem far more divided on the topic but probably fear the backlash of speaking out.

70% of the weapons come from the US and they will never stop to supply their FOB. Democrats or republicans will veto everything and make it as hard as possible to even reach a clear global verdict on what happened and how to classify it.

Most of the remaining 30% come from germany.

Here the key argument is that Israel is worthy of unwavering support due to the historical fact of the holocaust and the inhumane acts inflicted on the Jewish population.

As a german I feel this too, although for me the state of Israel and the global jewish population we did unspeakable crimes to are not necessarily the same. I also feel past and present crimes the jewish people had to endure can be used to understand why Israel is acting the way it does but it can’t be a justification of their barbaric way of waging this war against Hamas.

It is, but I wouldn’t count on our potential to wage an effective modern war in functional cooperation with the many countries in the EU. Especially when it is a war taking place out of Europe and not a defensive action.

A militaristic endeavor would surely be held up and manipulated by opposing countries within the alliance, just like it is now with economic decisions.

The hostages are probably one of the things keeping some areas in Gaza secure. Was a effective move to gather as many as you can, not only as bargaining chips but strategically.

Hamaz will use them as human shields in important positions, Isreal gives little fucks about dead Palestinians, thing changes when it’s your own civilians you bomb.

They should not give them back if they want to be able to operate a little further and prepare for a possible ground assault by Israel.

That’s what their soldiers are more effective in, no sense in getting bombed without aa.

A lot of militant groups use civilians as human shields to either completly prevent a strike or a least create bad publicity to spin their propaganda.

There were a lot of Israelis taken into Gaza by force, my guess is they are kept in the most important places to create a moral dilemma.

You either attack and kill your own civilians or let the enemy have undisturbed action.
