Minus 2 people. I’m back at a healthy weight and steady for a year now. Amazing what cutting out all the crap does.

Look, I’m going to say differently than the highest commenter on this post because I think they have value in a world that values my personal data. I used incogni and so far they just seem to be knocking my data out. Last year when I was where you were, unsure if i should do this, I was turned down for a role at a company due to a (flawed) background check (I was told this was the last step remaining in the process, I was denied the role).
So, I started looking at my own personal data (and found others with same name) and found absurdly wrong info. I have a semi common last name and a very common (for my age) first, so imagine my first hit comes up with criminal records for another stupidmanager of my about age, but possibly linked to some other family members and paying more I found my social associated as “potential”. I already knew other-stupidmanager in my city and others with my name had bad debts, but damn… that criminal record was out of the park felony (other-stupidmanager is still in prison for this). And now that I’m dating women who might have kids… man what a nightmare that could have been.
Now, nearly 9 months later, my name (first and last) might show up on the first few pages of google and it’s my professional profile or articles I’ve been quoted in. My full name, doesn’t appear at all. Also notable decrease in credit card offers, I-BUYhousing postcards and even those unsolicited advert mailers.
This is not an advert for incogni, this is a justification on why I value my private information and didn’t want to spend hundreds trying to fill out every type of form to get my name clear. I picked that company because it came recommended by another person here.
That is the phonetic spelling of how you’re supposed to say SUSE. It’s. SUSAhhh, like appaloosa. I know this because I watch that goofy video on youtube.
Uber has criminal background checks too. In fact, they take their policy very seriously. If you find you get into an uber and your driver is Paul, but it should have been Sara… (no this has never happened to me, ever…). You just call the safety line, or i also think there’s an in-app function.
Still supporting cabs first, but i felt it needed to be clarified.
Most taxis have that now too, and you can ask for the flat rate too. most drivers will quote you on longer trips exactly the price.
Way back in 2009 or so… my uber/taxi story. So I land in Newark, NJ and try to catch a cab and it’s $50 to go to the hotel on the other side of airport because we traverse 3 zones (and they charged by zone). Uber was $11. See, when Uber came out it was like a gamified systems and almost always cheaper. Drivers were getting crazy perks too, i swear one guy in seattle said he was banking north of 2k a day just back and forth to the airport. This was the only time in Uber’s history where a normal human could grind and make a nice pay with some added personal risk. I was all for it because in cities like Newark, unions control the politics and the average traveler (in this case, me) gets screwed in the name of “fairness”.
Unions are great, but not when they use that same political power to squeeze regular people for profits by controlling the pricing and forcing zones. I understand why they said they put that in place (fair competition), but in this case we all know it’s about profits first, better working for taxi drivers, second. Does that mean i love uber now? Hell no, they need a union (yep, i agree), but uber broke a broken system and made taxi companies be competitive. I can now open up several apps and see which is cheaper and choose accordingly (and these last 2 years it’s been cabs).
Slower, yes. More compression, yes. Stupid, no. tar serves a purpose beyond persevering permissions.
I remember the counter too. The ever growing available capacity of my mailbox that was more space than I could ever use. Just open Gmail and watch that number grow
When a book of fiction is considered perfect and the word of god by more than half the population that supports this model… well, your answer is obvious. This works, for the “right” people, even though it’s very wrong. And half the voting population want to make it worse.
I just got back from my monthly 2 hour visit with my trumper parents. My stress is still through the roof.
Fund education for all for as long as they want it. Educating your populace means you will have a more skilled and more innovative workforce which will lead to better outcomes for everyone.
This needs to be more.
Fix the education system to promote children. Feed and nurture them. Give them healthy foods to fuel their minds. Feed them 3x a day if needed. Stop allowing the people to decide if this should be covered by taxes.
Eliminate grade blocks (tiers, years, whatever) so kids that excel and not be hampered by kids that don’t want to be there. I was so bored until grade 5, then someone recognized my abilities and fostered them. I was the class clown and acted out because i was bored until I was shifted into a different class which was advanced in every way. If I show top grades, maybe I shouldn’t be held back because little Tommy the bully is a dipshit (he deserves to learn at his own pace).
In later years, remove redundant classes and replace with trades for students that are not excelling. Teach them viable skills. No one needs to have history classes in high schools, unless it serves a purpose. The only option for someone with zero skills should not be military school.
And for the love that is all wholly educational, pay our teachers so much better. Promote teachers that show drive (regardless of student year). Also mandate continuing education for them.
yep, same, for years. you WANT it to be true, so you ignore the contradictions.
♫ When I was a lad I ate four dozen eggs, every morning to help me get large. Now that I’m grown I eat five dozen eggs, so I’m roughly the size of a barge! ♫
next time internet stranger, next time.
I mean, i’m free now, you’re a linux lover, I’m a professional Linux-man. what say you Internet stranger? if you live in CO, come hang out. I have zero party plans tonight, but I am wearing my snazzy New Years Shirt!
Seriously, lame humor aside, I wish you the best.

I’m not too sure you’re right on that. I’m just recently separated (divorced soon), and my uh, “fridge“ is full of many good things and I wasn’t even stocking it.
Look, I’m no Brad Pitt, more like a tall, chubby Jason Stantham. So when I tell you I’ve got a few offers from my self defense class girl partners for coffee or a movie, I suspect the dating life is going to be fine.
Only “movie” I can think of with a pyramid thing is Stargate. But it’s need to be one of the tv series episodes or later direct to DVD movies that wrapped up the series. Like Stargate continuum, cause the Stargate: Ark of truth, had different bad guys.
Europe does it right. My ex wife would order either macchiato and cappuccino so she could keep awake on our trips. She’d order them and also add 2-3 things of sugar. I would just enjoy my cafe or espresso as is, depending on where we were.
Our last trip we were in Italy for 2 months, she stopped at Conad and found the American section, grabbed a bottle of chocolate syrup so she could make her own monstrosities. While not the reason for the divorce, this was a big problem for her back home. I do not miss the tons of ultra processed foods in my pantry.
This needs higher up. Lobbyists are a cancer
