  • Oh, maybe, however, a lot of them are the streamers and probably some viewers are disabled themselves. The streamers just don’t want to drive potential viewers away before getting to know them because of the whole way they have to present themselves in order to get money I think. Also because they think changing people through kindness and getting them to stay is better, which I can’t always disagree with.

Whispers on accounts old and new are now blocked without a phone number, there is no way around this. There is no setting for it that anyone can change. I have had an account for several years with very few problems and now I am blocked from whispering anyone as I refuse to hand over a phone number.

You can if you’d like, but I know twitch is going to get worse before or if it ever gets better, so personally I’m extracting everything I care about from it (mostly my clips) and then deleting my account. My life has been better since I stopped watching streamers too, I have more time and energy and don’t have to worry about as many things.

  • Yeah, sadly so.

I learned a little while ago that community isn’t really what I’m looking for so I’m probably an outlier here to be honest.

I wish I did know a group of people that did that.

Yeah, I am glad not all care about fame, it does amaze me how people can show themselves on camera like that or at least use their voice, I could never.

I agree about money being built through mutual aid, and I am glad that can be done, genuinely. I am glad that it works for you, that’s quite the amount of work you have put in it sounds like.

Oh, I completely agree. However, whenever I tried to call it out or in in such spaces I either got the distinct impression I was annoying the streamer, the other viewers or in a few cases have been contacted directly by the streamer and been told to stop, so this is another thing that soured me, I apparently care too much and mess up too much to hang out in such places.

I completely agree about accessibility tools, in foss they just often aren’t there because either no-one cares or they are just ignorant. However, twitch have locked a lot of their communiction and ability to watch streamers behind handing over a piece of very personal information (a phone number) which I don’t consider accessible or good and in a few places it is unnecessary as they already had protections on some things. Now they have gotten rid of a dedicated safety team and are replacing it with streamers who they aren’t going to pay extra for the ‘privellege’. [sarcasm] there’s absolutely no way that could backfire [/sarcasm].

I’m glad that it works for you and I hope you find some decent anarchists that stream though, genuinely.

  • Oh, I’m not imagining nobody would be there, just a few people that really believe in it.

I was around twitch for a while and before that youtube, and on commercial social media I’ve found that it creates a sort of artificiality, lots of rules and how you have to present yourself is different to places that take a less commercial approach because the goal is money and fame to a certain degree in commercial spaces.

Plus a lot of the time commercial places impose their will upon the viewers too, so both streamer and viewer are at the behest of a corporation which has soured on me over the years, I can never relax in such places. I feel like I’m being watched, which is probably true and they don’t have to listen to any of us, they might listen to those who make them money but that’s about it.

  • Thank you for explaining.

Whilst I can’t speak about the ages or genders of who it’s designed by, it’s probable that you’re at least somewhat correct. Compared to other actually secure apps I have to disagree but compared to all apps out there including ones that aren’t secure, I agree it probably isn’t as fun as them.

Yeah, the stories would be better up the top, as you say.

For stickers that are sent to you in Signal on Desktop and ipad OS at least, I can just click/press on a sticker and there’s a big Install button there, will test on Android in a bit, if you want to add new ones that haven’t been sent to you, I agree it’s a bit of a faff but you have to go here: https://signalstickers.org and you can install from there.

I do agree that not having to go to a separate website if a sticker hasn’t been sent to me and I haven’t got it installed already would be nice, I really think they are missing a major feature there.

I’m not sure why material you is important, would you mind explaining a bit more about that?

Yeah, a list of links would be very much helpful, most of the messengers I use are missing that and I wish they’d add that feature.

By “No filename preservation for audio files.” do you mean when you download it then it gets changed from its original name or something else?

Disagree to a degree at least compared to others on the recommended list, it at least has some features beyond just privacy. However, yeah, it could design them better and have more features that make the UX better.

  • Matrix, for which Element is but one client, leaks a lot of metadata and is not at all simple to set up correctly. Would be my guess.

I use it myself but it can be a real pain and very confusing to newcomers and more experienced users alike.

Plus no one client can do everything yet, not even Element.

Calling on it isn’t finished yet and those operating their own servers have to install their own TURN servers which seems either too much of a daunting task, or too expensive considering no matrix server I use has one afaik.
