But yet an eighth of weed now is still somehow the price of an eighth of weed then.

There was a rather well known Ubuntu meme logo going around in the mid-2000s that was just the regular logo but three different people’s butts touching in the center.
M.R. ducks.
M.R. not.
O.S.A.R.
C.M. wangs?
L.I.B.

I started my embedded engineering journey by blinking an LED on a PIC microcontroller back in 2007. Maybe you can toss them an Arduino development board. Programming by itself could be boring and tedious, but seeing your program actually do things in the real world could be exciting, at least it was for me. There’s so much to branch to from there, everything from industrial automation to vehicle navigation to robotics.
Kbin.social has y’all beat in the downed website department. Every click is a gamble on whether or not you’ll get an error page.
A huge amount of security camera NVRs run Linux, so that’s something.
And TempleOS will take the place of BSD.
Millions of colors and separated CPU ring privileges are overrated anyway.
I’m actually using it because it’s easier. I do hobby programming, and I like having every utility I would ever need related to that just one command away. Need a hex editor? It’s in the repository. Need a calculator that can convert binary to decimal? Also in the repository. IDEs/plugins/compilers? Repository.
Is this the equivalent of a PC maker in 2024 going “yeah, I don’t think we are going to put a floppy drive in anymore…”?
We’ve been making them for many years and have gotten very good at it.
This can’t be overstated enough. Modern mechanical hard drives are a hundred times more impressive than Swiss watches.
mount, finger, fsck…old school UNIX dudes were some fucking horndogs weren’t they.
Unpopular opinion: I think “Hurt” itself is overrated, and everyone just likes it because it happened to become one of the hit songs off the Downward Spiral. I think songs like Mr. Self Destruct and Eraser are what you really want if you want a display of raw, fucked up emotions.
All my fellow edgy 90s goth/headbanger friends: “He called it ‘Nine Inch Nails’ because that was the size of the nails that were used to nail Jesus to the cross”
Then watching an interview with Trent in a documentary 20 years later: “I just thought it sounded cool at the time”.
Remember the famous meme scene in Skyrim where you wake up for the first time?
Debian is the horse and cart you don’t even pay attention to but faithfully and reliably carries you where you need to go. It may be old, but its careful and safe and won’t harm you.
Arch is just an angry pissed off dragon. Very powerful. Good luck taming it.
There’s nothing that anyone can do in 2024 in the MS Office suite of applications specifically that I can’t find a third party or cloud equivalent of to do the exact same thing.
a valuable and required skill for any future job - basic Windows and Office usage.
Not everybody is a data-entry drone. I have no use for it, and I have a technical career.
Dude I worked for in 2008 (small IT support company) insisted we store all the domain logins and passwords for all our customer’s networks on our internal Sharepoint system and forward a port to RDP on all their domain controllers. It was a fucked up place to work with every procedure pulled out of someone’s ass on the spot.

Don’t you love freezing when you go to bed, waking up in the middle of the night in a pool of sweat, and then several hours later freezing again?
Goatse vibes.
