No one really cares about the init system other than like 200 people who live in their mom’s basement at 50 years of age or admin’s. btw systemd is LGPLv2.1+.
Try Fedora I have been using “Fedora 38 Budgie” with a AMD Ryzen 5 7530U it has been great about 12-15 watts playing music, and web browsing. it is around 40 watts with GtkStressTesting.
Newer Kernels have power saving features also stuff H264 etc.
not really wireguard hits ARM CPU’s hard. you can also get n95/n100 mini PC’s as well for around the price of a Orange Pi 5 and use Intel’s awesome encoder for jellyfin.
Using Mate, Variable refresh rate VRR, Wayland for Multi Monitor as Xorg is 99% Broken with Multi Monitor, and HDR/Color Profiles.
Mate i had far less issues with it.
A cheap 4k Android TV stick is much better or a $100 Intel n100 PC.
Some of the newer Samsung Drives have bad firmware.
LMDE is 100% using Debian packages for the core OS if you want a newer Thunderbird go to flathub.
edit.
You can do dumb stuff with Rust as well.
Mate has some Wayland support just the development died down.
I used the Beta it was nice as Debian has firmware out of the box now and LMDE has Debian backports setup out of the box.
just install Cockpit with Debian, and headless is better as the GUI is a security vulnerability

VMware player works with Zoom.
OpenZFS and Software for it has been adding features like crazy, but it has many full time Dev’s working on it, a lot of stuff for bcachefs is wip work in progress the features are not complete. also it has a lot of wishlist stuff.
For bcachefs to replace ZFS, it needs 1 to 2 years At least of work with a team of Dev’s.
Will i use bcachefs to replace ZFS yes when it’s ready.
I looked at bcachefs it is ZFS like but missing a lot of stuff, bcachefs is like a older BSD ZFS.
It made me sad they would not change ZFS to a licence with GPL, bcachefs from what i seen will make ZFS end up being BSD Only, ZFS uses a Shim AKA GPL condom does it not?
The power cost to run some systems 24/7 is like $10-$50+ a year.
1 to 2 years is what the Nouveau Dev’s said, if you want a Driver that just works.
