What is loops? That video hosting site I sometimes see linked on Lemmy?
I have people asking if it’s a site for fans of crumbly cheese.
So it is (I think the reasoning here is that, if God is the source of all Goodness and morality, rejecting belief in him necessitates rejecting God and, thus, belief in Him) but, like I mentioned, it’s Catholic belief that, in order for anything to warrant Hell, it just be willfully chosen.
Interesting. So a non-believer might not go to hell, so long as they don’t sin, but nor would they go to heaven. What, then?
Also, it raises the question of what counts as a sin. There are many things a Catholic would consider a sin that other people would not. Things like eating meat on Friday, use of contraceptives, or sex outside of marriage. Are these, if done by a non-Catholic, considered sins? And if not, is it not just…better not to be Catholic? Like, by converting people, is one not increasing the chance that they go to hell?
it’s slightly grating for most criticisms regarding Christianity to just be reactions to the most obnoxious Protestants
I mean, the first thing I think of when I think “Christians” is “paedophile priests like Cardinal Pell” whom the Pope himself protected.
But yeah, after that one thing, most of the criticisms I have of Christianity fall more heavily on Protestants than Catholics. It’s just…that one thing is pretty damn fucking huge.
again, not believing isn’t a sin
I must admit, I find this genuinely fascinating. I had thought it was pretty standard Christian doctrine that belief in Christ is a prerequisite for getting in to heaven. Is that not the case? And, assuming it isn’t official doctrine, do you think most Catholics are aware of the official doctrine, or would they believe, as I did, that belief in Christ is necessary?
Google+ was better. The concept of “circles” being the primary way of interacting with people was ingenious and far better represents how real people interact. My fencing friends are not the same as my RPG friends who are not the same as my family.
Facebook adopted this with “lists”, but they’re not treated as the core part of the experience that G+'s Circles were, so they don’t get used.
They don’t have a warrant canary and their excuse why not only applies to Swiss citizens
What is their excuse? I haven’t heard it.
Interesting in theory, so thanks for sharing. But in practice, not going to matter. It would require a third party to win in at least one state before the EC can fail to reach a majority.
Edit: actually on second thought, I suppose a tie is also possible without a third party winning. But still, a tiny edge case, really.
Reposting some links from a thread two days ago about his response on Reddit.
I thought this comment (and the thread below it…and the lack of any reply to it despite the CEO being all over the thread elsewhere) was pretty telling.
It’s much less of a strong tell, but is slightly concerning that he’s picked up language like “triggered”. As comments there say, his excuse of not being in-tune with American politics could be real, but are also possibly just plausible deniability, because he may have picked up on that language by hanging out online with fascists.
Gerrymandering isn’t possible with presidential races. And he won by 86 electoral college votes, including all of the states people were looking at as possible swing states. That’s why everyone is saying he won a landslide.
The fact that he won despite being a literal convicted criminal and despite having previously shown himself to be one of, if not the worst president in history, says a huge amount about Americans’ willingness to accept fascism. People are right to be troubled by this.
or whatever else has 100 pennies in
Well it’d be 8 shillings, 4 pence, in pre-decimal British currency.
And changing priorities and scope.
the edit worked
there’s also, if you’re interested, a second part of the puzzle that I edited into the above. It’s not a riddle though so feel free to ignore.
Yeah you definitely could. Personally I wouldn’t be bothered by it in a humorous context like this. But I know that’s a term that does sometimes cause offence, so I chose the alternative.
Yeah that’s the old Reddit syntax. Some former Reddit apps haven’t updated to support the syntax specified for use on Lemmy. I would recommend contacting your app’s devs and asking them to support Lemmy’s syntax.

She comes sometimes at need,
But never at your heed.
To meet with her is jolly,
To push her would be folly.
Who is she?
edit: for bonus points, I first came across this with a second step in the puzzle. Not a riddle, but a different kind of puzzle. Solve this:
Lweycxkxr nq kwf mxzqp vlqu yq uxslnkyy, njocy kc yi ykj u dop mjyfff lp udvp nq pws. Kdd qkxrm cbp nqy dgcvw nq qpn kdd zcd wcvdwy dyos qpq njo rlqeyx. Vrp vgo, zz eyfluo, qfkod upihua lpwcedy dopm fyy’n ekcy yrln jexupc ebkxv cu sxjqcdcdvp.
Though that’s not the same text I had the first time (it was in a D&D game and the text was related to that), the same technique would need to be applied to read the above text. The riddle’s solution is relevant.
Anyone else bothered by the inconsistent conjugation here? Should be “optimism” and “pessimism” to go with “autism”.
Oh neat. Yeah I think I’ve seen content from it, but I always interpreted it as just a video host, like Gfycat was, or how catbox is sometimes used.
