  • Ultimately it’s your life yah.

But I can’t help but think that adult humans don’t need to do penance and suffer for a year just because they made such a small mistake. It’s like a 12th century religious act.

I believe that adult humans can just learn not to do something without religious style self imposed suffering. If I burn my hand on the stove I don’t need to keep the wound in pain for a year in order to remember not to burn my hand again.

This all being said I am a humanist materialist. If people come from a spiritual background where self imposed suffering helps the soul I can see why they would do such a thing.

  • Fair. But that’s not really earth scale thinking in my book. It’s more our best understanding based on what we know.

I know of these theoretical work arounds. They’re more mathematical models that say if such a thing as negative mass exists, then we might be able to go faster than the speed of light. Issue is that the model does nothing to show that negative mass exists.

That and everything we know shows that it does not exist. If it did I would be incredibly happy. It’s just wishful hoping at this point though. We don’t even have a model or theory that shows how negative mass could exist. We only have theories that show what could happen if it did exist.

It’s like saying hm we know how F=m*a works. What could happen if we set m to a negative number? Yah in the math we can but that does not mean we can in reality.

  • A drop in the bucket isn’t event close to a good understanding of how big space is. A satellite in the ocean is grossly misleading when it comes to the scope of space.

Maybe a single O2 molecule in the ocean might be closer but even then that’s not even close to the scope of space.

Space is big. So big that the light cone of our “pollution” can’t physically interact with most of it even if we did our best to “pollute” as much as we can and some alien species did their best to find that “pollution”. Space is so big that physics dictate the impossibility of our “pollution” interacting with most of space.

Fun fact this is why the chance of aliens visiting us here on earth is basically 0.

You can’t use earth scale thinking, that’s how big space is.

This all being said we should do our best to not pollute the earth. We should use earth scale thinking when it comes to earth.

  • I wouldn’t say it’s a theory. Just my thoughts / speculation. I would speculate that people who are pushing out RT / Alex Jones level content would be more hesitant to do so if there would be a big “this is not a reliable news source” sticker next to it.

I would speculate that people who point Alex Jones / RT stuff just hope people read the article without thinking about where it comes from.

  • While I acknowledge that the MBFC does have some right wing bias, I think it serves its purpose. Aka to flag literal propaganda “news” sites.

The titles are literally accurate in the image. Israel is (unethically) launching preemptive strikes.

If you look at the .ml news communities that don’t use MBFC you will see that way too many news stories are from literally Russia Today, Southern China Morning Post, and other extremely biased to a very particular agenda publications.

I think people are trying to tie MBFC to being Zionist just so the bot will be dropped and it will be easier for them to normalize things like Russia Today outside of .ml spaces.

  • I am going to ignore the weird race stuff. I don’t agree with it but don’t want to spend the energy.

    I will speak about this:

I just suppose that the risk of alienating men and them getting more violent may outweigh the immediate benefit of increased plane safety, eventually turning against women themselves. But to prove or disprove that point, I’d love to see more numbers

This again dehumanizes women and removes agency.

You are saying that women are the tools that are used to prevent male violence. By treating women as a means to reduce violence without considering the women themselves as people you are dehumanizing and removing agency.

Women are people just as men are people. Women are not the tools to reduce male violence.

You also say giving women the choice to sit with women is radical. Women having the chose to protect themselves is not radical. It is a basis for a moral society.

You shouldn’t need studies to prove how effective or not using women as tools to reduce male violence is.

    Women are not tools.
