  • You don’t have to tell me the other guy is terrible. I know he is.

But did you actually watch the debate? The fact that he came out of that debate arguably looking even worse than Trump - in the eyes of voters, don’t even try to argue this one - was a clear red flag.

There was never any ‘advantage’ here, and Biden stepped down because even he knew it.

  • If you want to “do everything you can to win”, step one is not running the guy who was borderline incoherent in the debates. Staying by that would’ve been shooting yourself in the leg.

Did we watch the same debate here? There was never any advantage coming out of that one.

  • I’m basing my analysis on the observable trend that incumbents lose when the economy is poor. As well as, y’know, Biden’s abysmal poll numbers after the debate, the reason he dropped out in the first place.

You’re the one who started insisting incumbent advantage would’ve been a thing here, where’s your crystal ball?

  • Encumbant advantage? In this economic climate, it’s exactly the opposite. People who are feeling increasingly fed up with a world in which they cannot make ends meet vote against the status quo.

4 years of Trump got people to vote against Trump. 4 years of Biden got people to vote against his VP.

Biden himself would lost even harder than Kamala did.

  • I love everything that Fedi stands for, I wouldn’t still be here if I didn’t.

But it’s hard to shake the feeling that I’m mostly posting out into the void. I’m not optimistic about Fedi’s future, I think at this rate Bluesky is going to win even though they’re clearly only paying lip service to federation. Maybe if they can demonstrate that their federation works I’d consider trying a third party server, but it’s clearly not ready yet, and leaves a sour taste in my mouth as yet another corporate thing pretending not to be.

Ever since I swore off Reddit after the API fiasco, and ever since I left the one Discord server where I used to feel like I fit in, it’s felt harder and harder to find alternative places where I can talk about my most niche interests, because nowhere else is big enough for it to be likely I’ll find anyone else who also wants to talk about those same things.

I don’t think Fedi will ever be that for me. The one thing I can say for Cohost is that at the rate it was going, I was able to find a lot more posts relating to my hobbies and fandoms, and I kinda regret that I didn’t post more and lurk less.

It just sucks to feel like there’s nowhere else on today’s dying internet to go that will suit my needs.

  • When I point out that it’s bad for Afghanistan to “go broke”

Except that isn’t what OP actually said. Now who’s having a rich disagreement with people in their head?

This thread started with vilifying the Taliban, you responded with “oh you want people to starve?” Obviously, this is not a direct response to what they actually said.

All anyone said was that the Taliban is bad, and you’re very weirdly up in arms about that.
