  • I think we might be well past the days of honest natural sport. Thats not me saying we should be cheating, but trying to get back to that isnt possible, we have to figure this out moving forward not just for women or trans people but for all the other ways science affects sports.

Its not natural that someone with enough money for the best training science can provide them is almost guaranteed to be in the top percentiles of their sport.

What’s interesting is that this has been true since at least roman times, with funding going towards training and gear, even if the participants themselves might not be wealthy.

Yeah its really a perspective and lifestyle thing, although I’m at the point where I might actually turn something down if it meant I was required to carry around any more than I do now unless it was worth it, like for a job.

I won’t even do small chain rewards cards or any of that nonsense, and none of their apps work with a degoogled phone anyways, so I just pay extra to not have to deal with it.

  • Because to those outside of religion, its a choice to be religious. All of those least worst Muslims or good Muslims or good Christians or whatever you want to say, all should not be in those religions to begin with.

I’m not saying to destroy the community, break off and make your own “fuck the shitty versions of our religions” sect.

At some point people need to be held to their decisions, despite the community social pressure aspect, as the only way to counter that is equal and opposite pressure.

If you can figure out how to remain in a religion and cause that kind of backlash then I suppose you would be the exception.

Just to summarize, all religions are bad, so being part of them is bad too, even if you are a good person. Can’t be a good Nazi right?

  • Those were examples meant to get you thinking about how data points you might not have realized even were data points or that they could be collected and combined.

I’m truing to impress on you that there is not just a dozen or so avenues to take your data that you need to think about (cloud based anything, phones, computers, TVs, payment cards), its thousands of them.

Literally every single service shares with nearly every other service through the advertising network.

The only reason that this is even still a discussion is because it can’t be prevent they dont do something. No matter what proof is out forward, noone would ever 100% say anything about it. Its still more likely that your data was combined aggressively enough with those around you to the extent it felt akin to spying.

  • For me it was understanding the idea of equilibrium. The way I use it is to mean the state of something given enough time that highs and lows have evened out.

A practical example is with common diet mentality of dieting until reaching a goal, and then stopping the diet. The diet is a peak, not dieting is a valley, over time youll end up back at the same weight or more. Basically the problem is that modern diets give people high expectations when studies show the most likely scenario is that the weight is lost, and gained back plus some.

So what will work. If we think of this long term equilibrium, the dieting doesnt work because they aren’t permanent changes. So if we agree the only way to stay healthy long term is to make permanent changes, we can agree that making cumulative small permanent changes that affect diet will ultimately result in lost weight.

Sugar is the easiest to target IMO. Dairy, meat, and fish also are good things to target too as they cause other health problems besides weight gain. Switching to mainly water is another thing. Even taking on a new hobby or exercising a slight bit more will result in a net loss as less time is able to be spent on eating and more energy is spent physically.

Plant based whole food diets usually result in weight loss because they are less calorie dense, so you will feel full with a fraction of the calories in your stomach. Alternatively you can lose weight with calorie dense foods, but you will likely have to deal with hunger more.

Once I started thinking more like this, it was easier to come up with my own changes rather than shopping around diets with absurd restrictions. You know yourself best, make small changes and keep trending in a good direction, and if you make a “mistake” do your best to forget about it and immediately get back to it.

Yeah its meant to challenge someone’s current position by causing people to defend it out loud. I understand its actual nonsense to say noone should need a wallet, just as its nonsense to say that noone needs a phone case, or even that everyone needs a phone case.
