Makes sense, I just dont quite get what the compositor does in the case of two videos being played simulatanously both with vastly different profiles (e.g. one mostly red, one mostly blue).
Does the compositor then do correction on a per-window basis, or it just averages across the whole screen. This question is likely outside of the scope of the PR
I guess related to the MPV post. From what I understand wp_color_manager_v1 essentially tells a window manager what colorspace its outputting (via dbus?) so that the window manager can make (realtime?) color corrections.
Trying to think of a use case… maybe if you have a really red video scene, your window manager can normalise that so you can see the different shades of red better. Am I even close?

I do find cartoons the best examples here. Pippi Långstrump is an interesting choice since I think that’s aimed primarily at girls, but PepperAnn did it pretty well with an ambiguous audience. Daria (arguably, though she’s a bit of a toxic character). Kim Possible maybe? Again probably mostly aimed at valley girls, but the show was interesting enough that anyone could watch it.
Books wise, plenty of examples. Lyra, Matilda, Anne of Green Gables, etc.
I think issue is just hollywood. They pander to the lower common denominator which tends to be alpha males looking to justify their existence

I prefer it when the gender doesn’t matter, and that the hero doesn’t need to prove anything to the audience. They’re just well-written and we’re invested in their motivations and the wider story around them.
A good example of this is the excellent She-Ra cartoon. I can’t think of many good examples beyond that sadly…

I watch a lot of cartoons, but when there’s a dry season I find myself just rewatching The Simpsons or American Dad.
Usually the earlier stuff of course, but you get some gems in the later stuff, and the later stuff gets funnier the more you memorize the writing.
I’m beginning to suspect that nostalgia is a form of brain rot.

Yep, did survival skills when I was a kid. Treading on water with neck high for 15 minutes, diving in with PJs and plimsoles, and controlling our breath at the bottom of the pool, taking off our shoes and tying knots in our pyjamas to use as floatation devices. It was pretty intense for a bunch of 10 year olds to do, but yep we did it.
I’m not sure. I’m using the pipewire-pulse module on top of pipe, which provides the “drop-in replacement” of pulse, so it all seems to work with the old tools.
You make me wonder now whether I should drop pipewire-pulse and see if I still have accessible sound
