SEOUL, South Korea (AP) — Unionized workers at Samsung Electronics declared an indefinite strike Wednesday to pressure South Korea’s biggest company to accept their calls for higher pays and other benefits.
Thousands of members of the National Samsung Electronics Union launched a temporary, three-day strike on Monday. But the union said Wednesday that it was announcing an indefinite strike, accusing the management of being unwilling to negotiate. Samsung Electronics says there have been no disruptions to production.
Samsung Electronics will ensure no disruptions occur in the production lines,” a Samsung statement said. “The company remains committed to engaging in good faith negotiations with the union.”
However, in a statement posted on its website, the union said it has engaged in unspecified disruptions on the company’s production lines to get management to eventually come to the negotiating table if the strikes continue.
“We are confident of our victory,” the union statement said.
If Seoul ever wants to chip away at their demographic time bomb, they desperately need to fall in line with these demands.
Except the government and businesses there are hell-bent on doing everything possible except doing anything that might in the slightest get in the way of profits. It’s like the Ferengi are in charge of Health and Social Care.
And they’ll make sure to blame it on women too!
In a report, Seoul City councillor Kim Ki-duck argued women’s increased participation in the workforce over the years had made it harder for men to get jobs and to find women who wanted to marry them.
I’m not saying it’ll happen lol. Just that it would be the intelligent thing to do.
Hell yeah! I love hearing about workers collectively bargaining. It’s one of my favorite things.
Nice
Fuck yes, how do I support the strike?
I stopped buying Samsung mobiles due to their intrusive policies pushing bloatware and forcing updates. But I wish all the best to these workers.
I really like Samsung’s phones and software, but I think my next phone will be a Sony.
It’s Android. It’s not Google or Chinese. It’s got a headphone jack.
The 4K screen feels overkill though.Which model, out of interest? Do they let users to decline updates?
The 4K screen is specific to the Xperia 1 V. Though it seems the 1 VI has dropped it for 1080.
The Xperia 10 VI is a more budget version, still with a headphone jack.
I wouldn’t know about the ability to decline updates.
(The 1 is their premium model, the 10 budget. The Roman numerals are the generation.)
Thanks. I need to have a look around but I am definitely not buying any phone where the updates are forced on me.
Remember when workers at Samsung Electronics died from cancer they got from the chemicals they work with and Samsung tried to cover it up and threatened the families of the victims. Samsung has always been shit to their workers.
This is the best summary I could come up with:
SEOUL, South Korea (AP) — Unionized workers at Samsung Electronics declared an indefinite strike Wednesday to pressure South Korea’s biggest company to accept their calls for higher pays and other benefits.

In June, some union members collectively used their annual leaves in a one-day walkout that observers said was the first labor strike at Samsung Electronics.
In 2020, Samsung chief Lee Jae-yong, then vice chairman of the company, said he would stop suppressing employee attempts to organize unions, as he expressed remorse over his alleged involvement in a massive 2016 corruption scandal that removed the country’s president from office.
The company’s union-busting practices had been criticized by activists for decades, though labor actions at other businesses and in other sectors of the society are common in South Korea.
